After missing Lydden Hill we had a bit of break before our next meeting - Great Yarmouth. We decided to make a weekend of it, travelling up early Saturday morning for the Sunday night meeting and returning on Monday
I managed to get some laps in practice, during which I again felt like I was up to a decent pace despite a very tight and tricky track which not much grip and an unforgiving post and wire fence
The first heat, I was on pole again and a bad start meant I was forced to the outside line and found myself quickly towards the back of the pack. But I felt I held my own and raced hard not to loose touch, having a good race with the #55 car. Shortly after getting lapped and with 5 laps to go Steve Dakin and Wayne Galloway were involved in a huge accident, Steve's car getting launched over the top of the #23 before striking the top of a fence post. The race was immediately red flagged and the result called
Heat 2 and I battled in the pack for much longer this time before inevitably getting shuttled towards the back. With a couple of laps to go there was another huge accident. This time Ade, who was driving Pete's #31 car, was shunted from side, turning him hard into the fence - he then bounced out into the path of the Richie Wilkes #01 car. Again the race was red flagged and that was that
Due to the damage in the heats, and some other issues, there was a much reduced field for the final. My priority in this one was to finish as I knew that by doing so I'd get a decent a placing. And finish I did, scoring a 5th which, to date, is by far my best result
So again, for me, it was another hugely successful and enjoyable meeting, achieving and surpassing my goals. More importantly, the drivers involved in the large accidents were all Ok but the #99 and #31 cars both sustained significant damage
